Skin Treatment FAQ

**Before getting some chemical peels, most clients need to follow a pre-peel skin care plan for 2 to 4 weeks. This plan can improve results and reduce potential side effects.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth

  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging

  • Improve the appearance of mild scars

  • Treat certain types of acne

  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills

  • Improve the look and feel of skin

What To Expect After the Chemical Peel

Depending upon the type of chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by skin flakyness that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you're after. The new skin is also temporarily more sensitive to the sun, and it is required to use proper home care and SPF

When will I see the results?

Once your skin heals, you will see the results. Healing time ranges from 1 day for a superficial peel, or medium depth peel to 14 days

What is the difference between Pharmaceutical vs. Cosmeceutical Grade products on the market?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) divides skin care products into two separate categories: cosmetic and pharmaceutical. Pharmaceutical grade products you apply topically penetrate through the layers of the epidermis and affect the function and structure of the skin. Pharmaceutical products undergo rigorous testing that can go on for more than 10 years and cost millions of dollars. Pharmaceutical grade products are only available through a licensed professional. These products not only contain a higher percentage of active ingredients, but a higher quality of each ingredient. According to the FDA, Pharmaceutical grade products are required to be 99% pure, where Cosmetic grade products are only required to be 70% pure. Active ingredients are those that can make a change in your skin such as (reducing wrinkles, pigmentation, alleviate acne, etc.).
